This special Christmas episode of Phoebe’s Corner covers Edward de Vere’s infamous feud with Charles Arundel and Henry Howard, former friends whom he denounced as Catholic Conspirators in December of 1580. Howard and Arundel would retaliate the next year with a fulsome list of accusations against the Earl of Oxford, many of which have continued to colour his reputation to this day. But was Edward’s worst crime actually insulting Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas outfit?
